August 21, 1993, Sheryl Roush offered her second of two levels of qualifying presentations for Toastmasters International Accredited Speaker professional credential. Before a panel of (all male) judges at the Toronto, Ontario, Canada International Convention, Sheryl’s inspirational message, “Perc-U-Lating Power: The Magic of Having More Passion & Purpose in Your Life” opened with a magic act (pulling fire from a Toastmasters coffee mug), and ended with singing re-written lyrics similar to “When You Wish Upon A Star.” Earning both the “AS” designation — and a standing ovation from the filled theater, Sheryl became the youngest female globally, and the 28th overall, since the inception of the program in 1981.
In 1993, the Candidates presentations were available only as audio; not video.
