Toastmasters Poem: Twas the night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas as I was thinking of Clubs
to practice my speech for ums and ahs to scrub.
This one was special with lots of hoot,
filled with stories in my birthday suit.

The Toastmaster members will surely share in delight
as I entertain them of my wee flight
from the local authorities that one day
refusing to sit still and stay.

As I practice, the lights started flashing;
then out came the squeaker with that old familiar ...

Making Holiday Toasts

Making Holiday Toasts

You’re hosting a party and want to raise your glass to your guests
(co-workers, staff, volunteers, donors)… thanking them for coming…

Or find yourself at an event, hosted by your organization, company, or cherished friends …
and feel compelled to thank the host.

What do you say? What are the proper toasting traditions? Etiquette? What if I don’t drink?

Quotations for Thanksgiving

Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.
~Aesop

Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude.
Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness.

“Hurry up, kids! Talk to great Uncle Joe,”
Who lives a long ways away.
Then we’ll call Cousin ...

Celebrating Holidays

we carry in our heart, and live in each day. Not a date on a calendar.
Celebrating holidays gives us an opportunity to pause
from daily to-do’s and survival to find greater meaning
and significance in our life.

May EVERY day be a Holiday in your Heart.

Learning to Be a Boss

During the four years of medical school and four years of postgraduate training in Ob/Gyn, nobody had taught me to be a boss. My assistants during my residency were registered nurses who had been working at that hospital for years. I swear they knew more about what I was supposed to do than I did. There was no “bossing” to be done by me!
Excerpt from
Carol Grabowski, ...

Boss’s Day – October 16

Boss’s Day – or National Boss Day – is a secular holiday celebrated on October 16 in the United States and Canada. It has traditionally been a day for employees to thank their boss for being kind and fair throughout the year.

National Boss’s Day has become an international celebration in recent years and now is observed in countries such as Australia, India and South Africa and very recently Ireland and the UK. An interesting tidbit of this occasion in India, ...
